1965 One of the more political times for all of wrestling. It came the exposure of drugs to not only wrestling but all sports. Professional baseball players such as Mickey Mantle and Roger Marris were under trial for illegal use of drugs. Jose Constalla was under trial for use of drugs. Than people looked at the atheltic wrestlers and pointed their fingers at them. Lee Doragon who at this time was the Latino champion was put on court for the use of illegal substances. He was also two other champions at the same time. He was forced to vacate all titles and put them into tournaments. The Latino, Mexican, and Collegiate titles were all handed out to people though. Great controversy was drawn in the selections as Dragon Claw #3, Gurrero Jr., and Monty Piton won the titles. The titles didn't stay around on one person's shoulder too long as the value of the title went down with titles changing hands nightly. The state of LWO was in shock as American titles became stronger than that of LWO. The company decided to start booking matches and having them pre-decided. The fans would never hear of this and wrestlers of LWO didn't like this idea. The idea set in slowly. It set in until Lee Doragon returned. Lee was brought back into the business like a king. All bloodtests showed he was clean. No one could beat Lee one on one, but what about in matches that were pre-determined? Lee had no chance if he was to succeed like this. All the fans wanted Lee to become LWO champion. All the staff wanted Lee to become LWO champion. But the wrestlers were ready to boycott LWO had he become champion. Lee began to job massively, and the fans hated it. Lee became Mexican champion by the end of the era of drugs. |
